More Google reviews for cafés

A café lives on its regulars and on people who type “café” into the map nearby. The Spotstar card at the counter turns happy guests into Google reviews. Spotstar replies to them and shows you what guests value about your coffee, cakes and atmosphere.

Why Google reviews matter for cafés

Looking for a café is almost always spontaneous and almost always local. Someone is standing in the street with half an hour to spare and checks Google Maps for what is well rated nearby. Between three cafés on the same street, stars, photos and the latest comments decide.

Cafés have many guests, but short visits and small bills. Hardly anyone sits down after a cappuccino and writes a review unprompted. Your regulars come three times a week and have still never written anything, because nobody ever suggested it.

Where the card goes in a café

In a café, almost every guest passes the same spot: the counter.

  1. 1

    Next to the till

The guest is waiting for their coffee and still has their phone out from paying. It is the most natural moment.

  2. 2

    At the pick-up point

Where drinks are collected, people stand for a minute or two. The card fills exactly that wait.

  3. 3

    On the tables

For cafés with table service and guests who stay longer, for breakfast or to work.

  4. 4

    With regulars

A short remark is enough: “You're here so often, would you rate us on Google?” Regulars often write the most detailed reviews.

What café guests write about

Café reviews are short, but they revolve around the same points. Spotstar groups them into themes.

  • Quality of coffee and tea
  • Cakes, pastries and breakfast
  • Friendliness at the counter
  • Atmosphere and interior
  • Seating, Wi-Fi and sockets
  • Prices

You can tell, for example, whether your breakfast is praised more often than your coffee, or whether guests regularly cannot find a seat.

Example: replying to a café review

5 of 5 stars

Best flat white in the neighbourhood and the carrot cake is a dream. Often no free table at the weekend, sadly.

Reply from the café

Thank you for the lovely words, we will pass them on to our bakers. It does get full at weekends. Before ten you can almost always find a seat. See you soon.

Invented example. Spotstar answers praise right away; by default, replies to criticism only appear after you approve them.

Common questions

Is it worth it when each guest spends so little?
A café serves many guests a day. Even if a small share of them use the card, new reviews come in regularly. Your dashboard shows how often the card is used.
Do guests need to install an app?
No. Current smartphones read the card without an app. For older phones there is a QR code on the back.
Can we reward reviews with a free coffee?
No. Google prohibits rewards for reviews, even small ones. Such reviews can be removed. A friendly request without a reward is allowed, and it is enough.
