More Google reviews for shops
Before someone makes the trip to a shop, they check whether it is open and what others experienced there. The Spotstar card at the till takes happy customers to your Google review page. Spotstar replies to the reviews and shows what customers value about your advice and range.
Why Google reviews matter for retailers
A local shop competes with online retail for the same customers. What it does better is advice, being able to touch things and taking them home right away. That is exactly what good reviews say: “Someone took the time here.” No online shop can show sentences like that.
Many searches contain “near me” or a place name, from bike shops to florists. Google then shows a map with three shops. According to Google, reviews are among the things that play a part in that selection.
Where the card goes in a shop
A shop has one fixed point every buyer passes.
- 1
At the till
Next to the card reader. Anyone paying by phone is already holding it to a reader.
- 2
At the advice counter
After longer advice, for a bicycle or fitted shoes, gratitude is at its highest.
- 3
At the wrapping table
While a gift is being wrapped, the customer waits and has time.
- 4
At collection and service
Someone collecting a repair or an order has a finished experience and can judge it well.
What shop customers write about
Shop reviews are almost always about the person behind the counter. Spotstar sorts them by theme.
- Advice and expertise
- Friendliness of staff
- Range and availability
- Prices compared with online retail
- Returns, repairs and service
- Opening hours and accessibility
You can see, for example, whether customers praise the advice more often than the range, and whether certain items keep being mentioned as out of stock.
Example: replying to a shop review
4 of 5 starsVery honest advice when I bought my running shoes; they even talked me out of the more expensive pair. My size had to be ordered, though.
Reply from the shop
Thank you for your review. We are glad the advice was right for you. We are sorry your size was not in stock. We have adjusted our order quantity for that model. Enjoy your running.

Common questions
- We have many short customer contacts. Do we ask everyone?
- You do not have to. The card stands at the till and invites people by itself. A personal pointer is worth it after longer advice.
- Does this help against competition from the internet?
- Reviews show what a local shop is about: advice and service. Nobody can honestly promise that this turns into more revenue. Spotstar makes it easier for happy customers to leave a review and gives every review a reply.
- Can we reward reviews with a voucher?
- No. Google prohibits discounts, vouchers and other rewards for reviews. A request without a reward is allowed.
